Regional convenience store operator Spinx Co. LLC has begun a self-checkout pilot program at its Greenville, SC, location, according to a report in the Upstate Business Journal.

Four more Spinx locations will join the pilot program this fall. And by the third quarter of 2022, the fuel and retail company plans to have self-checkout stations at all its locations.

Spinx president Stan Storti told UBJ that self-checkout technology is intended to offer customers a speedy checkout option and redirect employees to other tasks to improve service, including the Spinx Clean maintenance program. He emphasized that self-checkout is not about reducing the company’s workforce.
