December 14, 2020 – Cultivation Capital, regularly ranked as one of the most active early-stage venture capital firms in the Midwest, is looking to expand their footprint and their investing activities into the Southeastern United States.

The effort will be led by Co-founder & Managing Director, Cliff Holekamp, who will open a new regional headquarters in Greenville, SC. Additionally, the firm has hired a new Principal, Alana Mann, who will be based in Nashville, TN.

“We believe that the Southeast is the most logical part of the country for us to add focus and to grow. The startup community dynamics are similar to those in the Midwest markets where we have thrived,” said Cliff Holekamp. “In fact, I believe the opportunities are so significant, that I am going myself.”

The growing startup community in Greenville was a draw for Cultivation Capital, as was proximity to major entrepreneurial centers in Charlotte and Atlanta. Cultivation Capital will open their office in the NEXT on Main innovation center located in ONE City Plaza in Greenville’s Central Business District.

Leaders from NEXT, the SCRA (South Carolina Research Authority), and Hughes Development were all key players in recruiting Cultivation Capital to the Upstate. “We are delighted to recruit additional capital resources to the region for the benefit of our startup community,” said Ken Brower, Interim, CEO of NEXT. “Cultivation Capital has an expertise in investing in emerging startup markets and will be a key contributor to our growing entrepreneurial economy.”
