A Somerville-based company is planning a $48 million expansion that will include construction of a new facility and a new product line, state and company officials said Monday.
Memphis Contract Packaging, which manufactures shampoos, soaps and other liquid beauty products, will build a second facility in Fayette County, hire 261 new employees and add new equipment. The new building will be a distributing and warehousing facility.
CEO Troy Propes said the company was experiencing "immense growth" and thanked U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn for her support of the expansion.
“There is significant opportunity for our employees to have great careers as we expand. We look forward to many successful years together in the area," he said in a statement.
Foaming hand soap and hand sanitizer also will be manufactured at the facility because of increased demand for the products during the pandemic, according to the state department of economic and community development.
