This LatAm-to-Miami startup is already seeing explosive growth in its cross-border ‘future of work’ solution
It was August of 2020, in the depths of the global pandemic, and Colombian entrepreneurs Santiago Aparicio, Julian Torres and Jaime Abella were busy with their own companies. But with workers suddenly remote and moving around the world, “we couldn’t resist the opportunity of just jumping in trying to solve one specific, huge pain point – cross border payments and cross border contracts,” Torres said.
The trio founded Ontop, which helps enterprises streamline their international hiring and payment processes by managing contracts, documents, taxes, regulatory compliance and payments with an easy, automated platform. As part of Y Combinator’s recent winter batch, Ontop’s founders further accelerated development of their employee-centric solution, said Torres, Ontop’s COO who previously co-founded LatAm gym aggregator FitPal with Aparicio, Ontop’s CEO. “We started obsessing with what international workers want. We’re building various financial products tailor-made for them.”
