Gildan Brings New Jobs to North Carolina
Gildan Yarns, the yarn spinning division of Gildan, a leading apparel manufacturer headquartered in Montreal, Canada, recently purchased a yarn-spinning facility in Eden, North Carolina. The company plans to invest $4.7 million to revamp and upgrade the site, adding 85 new jobs in the region. This location will be the company's fifth yarn spinning mill in North Carolina, and its seventh in the U.S. Eden, which is in Rockingham County, is also home to Gildan's first large-scale distribution center. Although wages at the Eden mill will vary depending on the position, the average for all new positions will exceed the current average annual wage salary in Rockingham County of $34,716.
Cascades Upgrades in Wagram
Canada's Cascades Holdings U.S. is undertaking a significant expansion of its Wagram operation. A leader in the recovery and manufacturing of green packaging and tissue products, the company will invest $58 million and add 66 jobs. A variety of positions will be added including production operators, maintenance and logistics personnel with total payroll impact for the new jobs expected to top $3.1 million annually.
"International manufacturers like Cascades are thriving in North Carolina," said Governor Roy Cooper. "These new jobs are an extra welcome boost for an area working to recover from Hurricane Florence." The company's three mills in the state — two paper mills and one moulded pulp mill — employ 296 people.
AirBoss Expands in North Carolina
Canadian manufacturer AirBoss of America Corp. has selected Scotland Neck, North Carolina for an expansion of its current facility, adding 42 new jobs and investing $5.2 million in the project. AirBoss, which was founded in 1989 and has been in business in Scotland Neck since 2004, will install a new mixer line with auxiliary systems to double the facility's current rubber mixing capacity. AirBoss develops, manufactures and markets high-quality, proprietary rubber-based products to various industries, including automotive, heavy industry, construction and infrastructure, oil and gas, and defense. The company is headquartered in Newmarket, Ontario.
