Starting today, Shipt is now offering same-day delivery of beer and wine from Target in Alabama.

And the shopping app says it will continue expanding alcohol delivery to additional retailers over time.

Earlier this year, Gov. Kay Ivey signed S.B. 126 into law, a bill allowing licensed businesses in the state to deliver sealed containers of beer, wine, and spirits to patrons’ homes.

The law went into effect Oct. 1.

Shipt says it regularly sees an increase in alcohol orders through its platform during the holidays in markets in more than 20 states where it currently delivers alcohol.

The elevated orders usually start three weeks before Thanksgiving, with the highest sales the week of Thanksgiving.

The top-selling beverages purchased are red wine, white wine and domestic beer.

“We’re thrilled to bring alcohol delivery to Shipt’s home state just in time for the holiday season,” Rina Hurst, chief business officer of Shipt, said.

“We’ve heard consistently from customers across Alabama how much they value getting groceries and household essentials they need delivered by Shipt, but that they’d like the option of having alcohol along with the rest of their order.”
